In & With the Spirit

As I thought of the word “WITH” I realized Jesus in not just in the water with me but he is also in the process, the transition, and in the jump with me into the water. I picture him asking me, “Do you want to experience newness, divine intimacy, and restoration? If so, jump with me.” I will never be able to find what He offers me on my own. But He is leading me from a sinful, dirty, wretched life to making me clean and pure. It's powerful knowing that one cannot separate the titles of “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” and “He who baptizes in and with the Holy Spirit”. I found it very encouraging to know that Jesus asks and offers us this jump with him every single day. Never thought of baptism as a daily choice but man, knowing this truth is so freeing!  

“Who can handle this effusion all at once?” Nobody. I think this circles back to DJ’s very first point that we will never be done answering the question “Who is Jesus?”. If we could handle this effusion, we’d be “graduates from Jesus school” but reality is we are all (and always will be) “undergraduates”. Being dunked, drenched, soaked, and immersed in and with the Spirit requires us to be baptized everyday, because through that we will find better understandings of who Jesus is.

Thank you Lord for offering me a cleansing bath of grace over and over again. I pray I find new answers of who you are every time I choose to be immersed in and with the Holy Spirit.

Bread of Life

To be reminded of the story of the Israelites and God’s offering of the manna as they were wandering in the wilderness allows me to reflect on a few ideas and themes in my own relationship with Him: 1.       Discipline/ Devotion : Am I going out every day to receive the bread of life? Noticing a deep desire to be in relationship with God is a good measure to point out a habit of coming. Those who keep coming to the bread of life understand the nourishment and goodness, which makes us want to come back. 2.       Trust : Am I trusting that God will provide? Taking more bread than told like the Israelites, shows that I am more concerned with how I want to satisfy myself rather than letting God satisfy me. 3.         Recognizing God : Am I recognizing a greater reality that God is near? Baptized In and With

I was first baptized when I was only a few days old, so I have no recollection of the event at all. It wasn't until my freshman year of high school that I truly came to experience Jesus. When this happened I had very little biblical knowledge and I had no idea about salvation or the true meaning of baptism at the time. Later, I learned the evangelist way of baptism, so I figured that was my peak Jesus moment. It is encouraging to hear, however, that this was not my only moment and that Jesus will continuously baptize me with the Holy Spirit as long as I trust in him. Another encouraging thing to hear is that there is no graduating from Jesus school. I think so much I fall into the trap of comparing my biblical knowledge to that of other Christians.
