Stay close to The Light


What a blessing it is to learn more about who Jesus is everyday.

Something that really stuck with me this morning is that our ideas about who God is are not God. So let's not begin with us, let's begin with Jesus.

DJ talks about how Him as Light both gives us reason to want to run toward and also run from Jesus. In the Light, we feel at home, we see everything we long to be... but His Light also reveals the darkest corners of our lives. Nothing can be hidden. We can see more clearly the places where we don't live up to the model that Jesus sets for us as humans. We see this, and we get to this shame, the kind that Michael talked about at Greek Row a couple nights ago, the type of shame that has made me, personally, draw back into the shadows before, away from His Light.

But the funny thing about God is that you can't really hide from Him. Even when you think no one's looking or paying attention, God is there with you. And even when you think you're completely in the darkness, all you need to do is look to Jesus to see even the smallest flicker of light. And as you take His hand, accept His invitation, and walk with Him, that light only becomes brighter.

Dear Lord, thank you for bringing your Light into our lives today and everyday. Thank you for revealing the parts of us that we're ashamed of, and breathing Truth into the darkness. You were, are, and always will be the Light of the world.

    Love this picture of God being near even when we're drawn back in shadows, taking His hand, accepting His invitation, and walking with Him, and being brought into the light. Thankful He loves like this!

Bread of Life

To be reminded of the story of the Israelites and God’s offering of the manna as they were wandering in the wilderness allows me to reflect on a few ideas and themes in my own relationship with Him: 1.       Discipline/ Devotion : Am I going out every day to receive the bread of life? Noticing a deep desire to be in relationship with God is a good measure to point out a habit of coming. Those who keep coming to the bread of life understand the nourishment and goodness, which makes us want to come back. 2.       Trust : Am I trusting that God will provide? Taking more bread than told like the Israelites, shows that I am more concerned with how I want to satisfy myself rather than letting God satisfy me. 3.         Recognizing God : Am I recognizing a greater reality that God is near? Baptized In and With

I was first baptized when I was only a few days old, so I have no recollection of the event at all. It wasn't until my freshman year of high school that I truly came to experience Jesus. When this happened I had very little biblical knowledge and I had no idea about salvation or the true meaning of baptism at the time. Later, I learned the evangelist way of baptism, so I figured that was my peak Jesus moment. It is encouraging to hear, however, that this was not my only moment and that Jesus will continuously baptize me with the Holy Spirit as long as I trust in him. Another encouraging thing to hear is that there is no graduating from Jesus school. I think so much I fall into the trap of comparing my biblical knowledge to that of other Christians. I see others as having it all figured out but in reality, they are still, and will always be, learning more and more about Christ.
